Why is Nintendo shutting down the Wii U and 3DS eShop storefronts? ![]() One very important thing to remember here is this: As of May 23, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a credit card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker will no longer be available in any official capacity come Monday, and entire generations of some of the most beloved Pokémon games will be largely no more – titles like Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow will disappear from the eShop, leaving only what could be pricey, collector-worthy cartridges as the only legal way to play them on Nintendo hardware. While some Wii U titles have since been ported to the Switch and therefore have at least a chance to live on for several more years, there are plenty that won’t, and the 3DS library – a system that makes use of a novel dual-screen setup, among other things – is getting hit the hardest in many ways. Grab it in some form or another. If you missed last week’s edition, here it is. On the 3DS side we of course have Mega Man X2, as well as Disney 2-Pack, Epic Word Search Holiday Special, Pixel Hunter, and Psycho Pigs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, Act it Out!, Hurry Up! Bird Hunter, Ninja Pizza Girl, PSIBO, and SKORB. ![]() In other, lighter news, the Wii U is getting Paper Mario: Color Splash, Mario vs. Now you can remember his contribution to the great Maverick war on 3DS. A frequent conversation piece among Mega Man enthusiasts, this guy blasts into the opening of Mega Man X2 in a relatively big way for an unknown NPC, and right before he has the chance to look over at you and flash a “thumbs up,” he’s unceremoniously hit by a beam and explodes. Prior to our weekly installment of Nintendo Download, I just have to give another shout out to “Green Biker Dude.” Before “Marauder Shields” was a thing, there was the Green Biker Dude. ![]()
